Shane Cartwright

BACKGROUND
Shane began his fire service journey in Rocky Point at a young age, helping around the station while his parents were members. After high school, he entered full-time service with Mason Valley Fire in Yerington, Nevada, where he served four years as a Firefighter and EMT II. He then transferred to the Hawthorne Army Depot Fire Department, serving approximately four years as a Firefighter and EMT II and as the Hazardous Materials Coordinator.
In June 2004, Shane joined Naval Air Station Fallon Fire, where he served as a Firefighter and EMT II and advanced to Captain, supporting both structural response and aircraft rescue and firefighting operations. In 2020, he transitioned into fire prevention and retired in 2022. During his career, he also supported the State Fire Marshal’s Office as a master and lead instructor and fire inspector, traveling statewide to deliver classroom instruction and live fire training evolutions to departments across Nevada.
PATH TO ROCKY POINT
Shane returned to Rocky Point at the end of 2022 and rejoined Rocky Point Fire & EMS in 2024.
ROLE IN ROCKY POINT
Shane currently serves as Fire Chief, bringing decades of operational leadership, training, and prevention experience to the department.
CERTIFICATIONS & SPECIALTIES
Shane is currently transferring his EMT Advanced credential to the State of Oregon. His qualifications include Firefighter I and II; Driver Operator (Pumper, Aerial, and ARFF); Fire Officer I and II; Fire Instructor 3; Fire Inspector I and II; NFPA Fire Investigator I; Wildland Firefighter Type 1; and NWCG Crew Boss and Engine Boss. He is also working toward Strike Team Leader.
BEYOND THE STATION
Outside of the station, Shane prioritizes time with his children and grandchildren and enjoys hunting and fishing whenever possible.
